Rory McIlroy wins Masters, completes golf Grand Slam
The 35-year-old athlete defeated English golfer Justin Rose in the decisive match.
At Augusta, in the state of Georgia, McIlroy triumphed in a tense battle, decided by a playoff. Upon realizing he had become the champion, the Northern Irishman burst into tears.
"First of all, I’d like to ask: what are we going to talk about next year? This is a dream come true. I’ve dreamed of this moment my entire life. I was overwhelmed with emotion; it was one of the toughest days of my career," said Rory McIlroy, golfer from Northern Ireland.
Rory McIlroy earned $4.2 million. The Northern Irishman is the sixth player to complete the Grand Slam in golf, having won the US Open, PGA Championship, Open Championship, and Masters.
