The integration of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia in the projects of the Three Seas Initiative (I3M), as well as supporting the pro-European orientation of the three states, is a priority of Romania, declared on Saturday, at the Munich Conference, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu.
The head of Romanian diplomacy presented on Saturday, in Munich, Romania's priorities for the summit of the Three Seas Initiative, an event that Bucharest will host in September of this year. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, during the discussions, Bogdan Aurescu addressed the ways in which the Initiative can be an additional element of support for the pro-European orientation of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, "vulnerable neighboring states in the context of aggression Russians in Ukraine". At the same time, according to the cited source, "concrete ways by which the Republic of Moldova, along with Ukraine and Georgia, can be integrated into projects and long-term planning at the I3M level" were addressed, starting from the results of the I3M Summit in Riga, from 2022, where Ukraine became a partner state participating in the Initiative. The Three Seas Initiative is a flexible and informal political platform, at presidential level, that brings together the 12 EU member states located between the Adriatic, Baltic and Black seas (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland , Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia). The basic principles of the Three Seas Initiative are: promoting economic development, increasing cohesion at European level and strengthening transatlantic ties. To date, there have been seven Summits of the Three Seas Initiative. The eighth edition of the Summit and Business Forum will be hosted by Romania, between September 6-7, 2023.
