Moldova, NATO strengthen ties amid Ukraine conflict

On April 15, Moldovan President Maia Sandu met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during his brief stopover in the country before continuing on to Ukraine.

According to the Presidential Office, the two officials discussed regional security developments, efforts to restore peace, and ongoing cooperation between Moldova and the North Atlantic Alliance.

Moldova has partnered with NATO for over 30 years through the Partnership for Peace—an initiative that respects the country's constitutional neutrality while contributing to the safety and security of its citizens, the statement noted. NATO’s support has helped Moldova enhance its ability to prevent and respond to crises, modernize its security and defense institutions, and protect its information and cyber infrastructure.

Also on April 15, Mark Rutte traveled to Ukraine, where he visited the city of Odessa—recently targeted by Russian drone attacks—and held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
