Two swine fever outbreaks confirmed in Moldova; ANSA steps up quarantine and surveillance measures

Two outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) were confirmed in the Republic of Moldova between April 3 and 15, 2025. One of the cases was detected in domestic pigs in the locality of Rădenii Vechi, Ungheni district, and the other – in nine wild boar bodies, in Lozova, Strașeni district.

The authorities introduced quarantine measures in the identified outbreaks and established protection and surveillance zones. Also, controls on wild reservoirs and animal movement are being intensified, and specialists are screening both domestic pigs and wild boars.

ANSA warns that the risk of new outbreaks remains high and calls on the population and farmers to avoid feeding pigs with food waste of animal origin and to comply with biosecurity measures to limit the spread of the disease.

According to data from the National Food Safety Agency, from 2016 to the present, 265 bodies of wild boars infected with the ASF virus were discovered in the Republic of Moldova.

We remind you that two large outbreaks of swine fever were detected in mid-March at a farm in the village of Roșcani, Anenii Noi district, and in the village of Cimișeni, Criuleni district.
