A person was killed, and at least 57 others, including five children, were injured in a missile attack by Russia on Kharkiv on the morning of April 18, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service.

Local authorities have reported that the missiles used were equipped with cluster munitions, causing extensive damage, according to The Kyiv Independent..

The attack resulted in significant destruction: at least 20 apartment buildings and 30 houses were damaged, along with a school. Additionally, a fire broke out at a company, with the flames spreading across 450 square meters.

"Preliminary reports indicate that the strikes on Kharkiv were carried out using ballistic missiles equipped with cluster munitions, causing extensive damage," wrote Kharkiv's mayor, Igor Terehov, on Telegram. "One missile struck a residential building. There may be people trapped under the rubble," he added.

Meanwhile, Oleh Sinehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the Russian missile attack targeted the densely populated Osnoviansky district of the city. "Thirteen people were hospitalized in the city's medical facilities, including two children. Four individuals are in serious condition," he reported on Telegram.

The Kharkiv region, located in northeastern Ukraine, is frequently targeted by missile, drone, or glide bomb attacks from Russian forces.

This attack occurs amid Russia's continued rejection of a 30-day ceasefire proposal, mediated by the United States. Kyiv has reiterated its willingness to accept the ceasefire, provided that Moscow adheres to the proposed terms.
