President Maia Sandu, meeting with top European officials. Regional security and European integration – the main topics addressed
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, continues her visit to Munich with a series of high-level meetings. The head of state addressed the subject of regional security, the main challenges to the security of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the continuation of the reform agenda and the advancement of the country's European path, also on the third day of the Security Conference, which takes place in Germany on the 17 - February 19.
Today, the Head of State discussed, in Munich, with the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander de Croo. The officials exchanged views on "the war is affecting our country" as well as the actions the authorities are taking to boost reforms. Maia Sandu claimed, during the meeting, that "European integration is our country's project and that the Chisinau government is taking concrete actions to achieve this at a sustained pace".
"We appreciate Belgium's support for the internal transformation processes of the Republic of Moldova and we are grateful for the encouragement we have from Brussels in our efforts to advance along the European path. On a bilateral level, we want more joint development projects and Belgian investors on our market", announces the president.
In Munich, the president also had meetings with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, with whom she discussed the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova, but also how the authorities in Chisinau manage the "multiple crises caused by the regional situation".
Also today, Maia Sandu met, on the sidelines of the Security Conference, with her Czech counterpart, Petr Pavel. The officials had an exchange of views on the unstable situation in the region. "The Czech Republic is an important partner that supports our efforts to modernize the country, but also European aspirations. Thank you!", President Maia Sandu wrote on her Facebook page.
Regional security developments, as well as the European path of the Republic of Moldova, were discussed by President Maia Sandu and the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković. "Croatia's recent experience can be a useful example for us in preparing for accession procedures. We need the support of all states in this process, and Croatia is an ally we can count on," Maia Sandu said after the meeting.
About mitigating the economic and social consequences caused by the war in Ukraine, but also the importance that the International Monetary Fund could have in this regard, Maia Sandu discussed with the general director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva. "We have analyzed our macroeconomic perspectives for 2023 - the year in which we must find better solutions to restart the economy", says president Maia Sandu.
