Paun Rohovei: European integration is a common priority for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova

The Republic of Moldova is a close partner and ally for Ukraine, and the goal of the authorities in Kyiv is to deepen Moldovan-Ukrainian relations across all areas. This statement was made by Paun Rohovei, the Ukrainian ambassador to Chișinău, during the “Diplomatic Dimension” program on Moldova 1 TV. The official also highlighted the importance of the shared European path of the two countries.

“My goal, in line with the priorities of the Ukrainian government and the President of Ukraine in relations with the Republic of Moldova, is to do everything possible to deepen cooperation in all areas. A very important sector is the economic one. We have many infrastructure projects that we hope to implement soon — the construction of bridges, road development,” said the diplomat.

European integration is a major priority for both states, the ambassador emphasized.

“Here we have a field where there is great potential for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the implementation of joint projects to achieve the result of integrating into the civilized world — into the EU,” Rohovei stated.

The diplomat also noted the intensification of relations at all levels — from presidents and prime ministers to expert groups. In this context, he announced plans to reactivate the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Trade Cooperation and to deepen collaboration in energy, cybersecurity, and counter-propaganda sectors.

Regarding trade relations, the ambassador reported a 12% increase in trade between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in 2024. While Ukrainian exports to Moldova rose by 16%, imports from Moldova registered a slight decline.

“Overall, if we speak about our economic and trade relations, they are growing,” said the diplomat.

As for the European aspirations of both states, Paun Rohovei declared: “For Ukraine, Moldova’s European future is an element of national interest. We feel the same from the Republic of Moldova.”

“We are two states that share the same aspirations, the same choice for the future, and of course, we support each other,” concluded the Ukrainian ambassador to the Republic of Moldova.
