EU, a key partner in Moldova's modernization: Kaja Kallas met with Dorin Recean and Mihai Popșoi

The European Union's contribution to the modernization of road infrastructure, strengthening state security, building hospitals and providing quality medical services, creating better conditions in kindergartens and schools, as well as providing compensation for light and heat to all citizens were the topics discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean during a meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas. The Head of the Executive reiterated that "The European Union is more than a partner that helps us build a better present and future at home, in peace and prosperity".

The EU official Kaja Kallas, appreciated the developments on the path of European integration of the Republic of Moldova and reaffirmed the constant support for reforms implementation and maintaining our country on the European agenda.

During her visit to Chisinau, Kaja Kallas also met with Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, with whom she reviewed the progress made in the political dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union and the Security and Defence Partnership – the first of its kind signed by the EU with a third country.

The Foreign Minister thanked the EU Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM), which has become a reliable partner for the Moldovan authorities in the field of strengthening crisis management capacities and countering hybrid threats, including those related to cybersecurity and combating disinformation. The need to extend the mandate of the EUPM for the next two years was reiterated.

In Chisinau, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, also visited the National Museum of Art of Moldova, where she admired works from the national cultural heritage – from church icons and folk crafts, to decorative arts and creations by Moldovan artists.

On this occasion, Kaja Kallas highlighted the essential role of culture: “The European Union supports the preservation of Europe’s cultural heritage and promotes the arts and creative industries. Art remains a symbol of human unity and the need for understanding and dialogue between peoples”, declared the European official.

Kaja Kallas is paying her first official visit to the Republic of Moldova, in her position as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy that was taken over on April 23-24. The program includes meetings with President Maia Sandu and discussions with representatives of civil society.
