EU grants €60 million to strengthen Moldova's security

The Republic of Moldova will receive an additional package of 60 million euros from the European Union to strengthen its resilience to external threats. This was announced by European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas in a joint press conference with President Maia Sandu. According to the head of European diplomacy, the support is part of the "European Peace Facility".
The EU support also includes defense equipment. This will help the Republic of Moldova prevent the overflight of its airspace by Russian drones and missiles.
“In total, this assistance will amount to 200 million euros. We will focus on strengthening efforts and ensuring greater security for citizens”, said Kaja Kallas.
The head of European diplomacy also spoke about the autumn elections. The European Union will send a rapid intervention team that will support the Moldovan authorities in combating hybrid threats, including online disinformation: “We will support your efforts to ensure the proper functioning of the electoral infrastructure and to prevent the spread of online disinformation. The European Union will continue to help the Republic of Moldova strengthen its resilience against hybrid threats and to strengthen preparedness against new crises”.
President Maia Sandu welcomed the EU initiative to provide the Republic of Moldova with equipment that will protect our citizens from Russian drones: “They violate our airspace and even fall on the territory of the country, endangering people’s lives, homes and our infrastructure”.
The Republic of Moldova is a peaceful country that does not want war but must defend its peace and citizens, said the president. The European Union invests precisely in this fundamental right—the right of every citizen to live in safety. For this and your commitment to Moldova: Thank you!”
Maia Sandu highlighted that the stakes of the autumn elections are crucial for the Republic of Moldova, and citizens have the right to decide their future. "*European colleagues will work side by side with Moldovan experts to strengthen our capacity to prevent these manipulation attempts so that every citizen can vote freely, without fear, without lies. The future of an entire generation and the survival of Moldova as a free and democratic state depend on the vote in the fall. Therefore, the vote must be expressed freely, without any outside interference."
We remind you that Kaja Kallas made her first official visit to the Republic of Moldova since taking office as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on April 23-24. The head of European diplomacy had meetings with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi, as well as discussions with representatives of civil society.
