Easter aid payments start May 2, available by card or at the post office

Beginning today, May 2, more than 230,000 people in the Republic of Moldova will receive aid for the Easter holidays. This financial support is designed for families with children up to five years old, children with disabilities and individuals with severe disabilities.

The aid will be distributed as follows:

1,500 lei for each child under five years old; 5,000 lei for children with disabilities and individuals with severe disabilities. Funds will be transferred directly to the beneficiaries' bank cards. Cash withdrawals can be made at post offices for those without bank accounts, where they will be notified via SMS.

This program is financed through the "Bugetul Plus" initiative, which the European Union supports. The total amount allocated for these payments is approximately 470 million lei.

The one-time aid provided by the government for the Easter holidays has sparked significant criticism. The opposition accuses the current government of offering "disguised electoral handouts" just before the parliamentary elections scheduled for the fall. Some experts note that while financial support is welcomed, the lack of clear criteria for distribution raises concerns. Conversely, the ruling party, Action and Solidarity (PAS), refutes the accusations and argues that it consistently supports citizens, regardless of the election cycle.
