George Simion, the candidate and leader of the far-right party Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR), and Nicușor Dan, an independent candidate and the general mayor of Bucharest, have qualified for the second round of the presidential elections in Romania, according to preliminary results published by the Permanent Electoral Authority.

After centralizing 100% of the election results, George Simion scored 40.96% of votes, while Nicușor Dan garnered 20.99%.
Crin Antonescu came in third with 20.07% of the votes, followed by Victor Ponta with 13.05%, and Elena Lasconi with 2.68%.
According to the official election calendar, applications for the annulment of the elections can be submitted to the Constitutional Court until May 6 if there are suspicions of electoral fraud.
On May 8, the Central Electoral Bureau will send the official election results to the Constitutional Court, along with the minutes prepared by the local electoral bureaus. The Constitutional Court will then validate the election results and publish them in the media and the Official Gazette.
The electoral campaign for the second round will officially commence on May 9, with voting scheduled for May 18.

Preliminary results: George Simion and Nicușor Dan, in the second round
George Simion and Nicușor Dan are the first two candidates to qualify for the second round of the Romanian presidential election, according to preliminary results. After counting 99.98% of the votes, George Simion scored 40.94% of the votes, and Nicușor Dan – 20.98%.
In third place is Crin Antonescu, with 20.09%, followed by Victor Ponta – 13.06%, and Elena Lasconi – 2.68%.

According to partial data published by the Permanent Electoral Authority, independent candidate Nicușor Dan came in second in the race for Cotroceni Palace, beating the PSD–PNL–UDMR Coalition candidate Crin Antonescu.
After counting over 92% of the votes cast, the ranking looks like this:
George Simion – 40.15%
Nicușor Dan – 20.65%
Crin Antonescu – 20.64%
Victor Ponta – 13.60%
The difference between Nicușor Dan and Crin Antonescu is only a few hundred votes.

After centralizing over 90% of the votes cast in the first round of the Romanian presidential elections, AUR candidate George Simion is currently in the lead with 39.98% of the vote.
The competition for the following positions is very tight: Crin Antonescu, supported by the PSD–PNL–UDMR coalition, scored 20.80%, closely followed by Nicușor Dan with 20.40%. Victor Ponta is in fourth place, garnering 13.78% of the votes.
According to official data provided by the Permanent Electoral Authority, 8,615,394 votes have been counted out of a total of 9,571,740 cast.
Partial results after centralizing over 80 percent of the minutes
The vote counting process for the first round of presidential elections is still underway. With 80% of the results centralized, George Simion, the candidate from the AUR party, currently holds the lead with 40.7% of the votes.
In second place is Crin Antonescu, the candidate supported by the PSD–PNL–UDMR coalition, who has received 21.3% of the votes. He is followed by Nicușor Dan with 18.3%, and Victor Ponta with 14.6%.
The Permanent Electoral Authority is updating the data from the polling stations in real time, and the final results are expected to be released in the coming hours.

George Simion leads after centralizing 25% of minutes
After centralizing 25.61% of the minutes, representing 12.36% of the total votes cast, the AUR candidate, George Simion, leads by a wide margin, with 43.74% of the votes.
In second place is Crin Antonescu, the candidate supported by the PSD–PNL–UDMR coalition, with 24.36%, followed by Victor Ponta with 14.51% and Nicușor Dan with 12.59%. Up to this point, 1,183,503 votes out of 9,571,740 cast have been counted.
The official results differ from the exit poll estimates announced at the close of the polls. The Avangarde poll for 7:00 p.m. credited George Simion with 30% of the votes, followed by Crin Antonescu and Nicușor Dan, each with 23%. Another poll, conducted by CURS and valid for 20:00, placed Simion at 33.1%, Crin Antonescu at 22.9%, and Nicușor Dan at 20.9%.

In the recent presidential elections in Romania, 9,571,740 people participated, resulting in a turnout of 53.21% of all registered voters. This turnout is slightly higher than in the first round of the 2024 election, reflecting an increase of 0.66%.
In the Republic of Moldova, 90,851 Romanian citizens cast their votes, which is almost 10,000 more than the previous year, when approximately 80,000 voters voted.
