Volodymyr Zelensky, on Moscow's plan to destabilize the Republic of Moldova: "I've been planning this for a long time"
Russia's plan to replace the pro-Western leadership of the Republic of Moldova, discovered by the Ukrainian intelligence services, was later confirmed by European countries as well, claims the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. The leader from Kiev stated, in an interview for "La Repubblica", quoted by Hotnews, that the Kremlin thus wants direct access to the airport in Chisinau, in order to be able to transport soldiers and equipment to open a new front in Ukraine from the Transnistrian region.
"The Russians have been planning all this for a long time. However, Moldova and Russia do not share a common state border. So, how should he implement his plan (to open from Moldova a new front in Ukraine - n.r.)? Where would they send their troops and equipment there from? The Russians need airports for that. But now there is only one airport in Moldova, in the capital Chisinau. So they have to use this airport and all the resources of Transnistria," explained Volodymyr Zelenskiy, according to the quoted source. The Ukrainian president also said that the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, never asked for his help, but thanked her for the information. "She knows our situation very well. Ukraine will always be ready to help Moldova", assured Volodymyr Zelensky. It should be noted that the Chisinau authorities have not yet commented on President Zelenski's statements. Contacted by Moldova 1, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau said it would return with an official reaction later, and the press service of the Presidency did not respond to our calls. It should be noted that the Kremlin qualified, on Monday, the relations with the Republic of Moldova as "very tense". Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitrii Peskov accused leaders in Chisinau of "pursuing an anti-Russian agenda" after President Maia Sandu recently said that Moscow had developed a plan to destabilize the Republic of Moldova. Peskov also mentioned the "peacekeeping forces" that Moscow has stationed in the Transnistrian region, asking Chisinau "not to aggravate the situation even more." Peskov's comments come in the context in which, at the beginning of last week, President Maia Sandu stated that Russia has a plan to destabilize the Republic of Moldova, "with the involvement of diversionists with military training, camouflaged in civilian clothes, who would undertake violent actions, attacks on some state buildings and hostage-taking". Maia Sandu Sandu gave a press statement in which she spoke about Russia's plans to remove power from Chisinau, a few days after the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenski, spoke about a plan by Moscow to destroy the Republic of Moldova. Meanwhile, Chisinau asked the European Union on Monday to impose sanctions against the fugitive oligarchs "who stole the Republic of Moldova for years, and are now trying to destabilize the government and sabotage the EU accession process."
