Bashkan Evghenia Guțul's house arrest extended by 30 days

The governor of the Gagauz Autonomous Region of Moldova, Evghenia Guțul, will remain under house arrest for another 30 days, until June 13. The decision was recently announced by the judges of the Chisinau Court based in Ciocana.
Evghenia Guțul was detained on Tuesday, March 25, at Chișinău International Airport while attempting to leave the Republic of Moldova. Law enforcement officials allege that she tried to evade criminal prosecution.
On March 28, she was placed in preventive detention for 20 days, facing accusations of fraudulent management of electoral funds, illegal financing, and document falsification to support her electoral campaign. On April 9, the magistrates of the Chișinău Court decided to transfer her from an isolation ward to house arrest, a decision that was upheld by the Central Court of Appeal.
Evghenia Guțul denies the charges and does not plead guilty.
