Igor Grosu in Budapest: Moldova is ready to help building a strong, united Europe

The accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union does not entail a loss of sovereignty. Instead, it signifies the strengthening of the state, democracy, and peace. This statement was made by the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, during the Conference of Speakers of the European Union Parliaments held in Budapest on May 11-12.
In his speech, Igor Grosu addressed the current challenges facing the Republic of Moldova, particularly in light of the fall elections. He stated, “We face real hybrid threats, such as disinformation and corruption funded from abroad, as well as groups attempting to divert the Republic of Moldova from its European path. The Russian Federation, along with local oligarchic networks, is making significant investments to transform our country into a corridor of influence and pressure against Ukraine.”
Grosu emphasized that Europe must unite in critical areas such as defence, energy, and security.
“The European path is not easy, but it is our path, and we, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, have chosen it consciously and with confidence”, said Grosu.
The Parliament Speaker also highlighted the support provided by the European Union to Moldova.
“We are not alone. We have you by our side, dear friends of Moldova. Together, we can demonstrate that Europe is more than a political project—it is a commitment to solidarity and freedom. As a future member state, the Republic of Moldova is ready to help to build a strong and united Europe”, said Igor Grosu.
The Parliament of Hungary hosts the Conference of Speakers of European Union Parliaments. This event brings together the leaders of EU member states' legislative branches, the European Parliament's President, and counterparts from candidate countries. The discussions will focus on the future of the European Union, interparliamentary cooperation, regionalism, and the protection of European cultural identity.
