Two candidates advance to interviews for Anticorruption Chief Prosecutor post

The special preselection commission for candidates for the position of chief prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has advanced Marcel Dumbrăvan and Octavian Iachimovschi to the interview stage. This decision was reached during a closed meeting on May 20, after evaluating their applications based on the eligibility criteria outlined in the Law on the Prosecutor's Office.
According to an official statement, two candidates have met the necessary requirements and have been advanced to the second stage of the competition: the interview. The interviews are scheduled to take place on June 10, starting at 10:00 AM, at the headquarters of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
During the interview, the interim head of the Prosecutor's Office, Marcel Dumbrăvan, and his deputy, Octavian Iachimovschi, will be evaluated based on their managerial and professional skills, impeccable reputation, and lack of suspicion regarding involvement in corruption or violations of the Integrity Law. The candidates will respond to the Commission's questions and present their own concepts for management and institutional development.
The position of head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office became vacant following the resignation of Veronica Dragalin, who criticised the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the Fight against organised crime, stating that no plausible or convincing reasons were provided to justify its creation. In early March, the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) appointed Marcel Dumbrăvan as interim head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
