Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has urged the European Union to intensify economic pressure on Russia, specifically calling for a reduction of the price cap on Russian oil to $30 per barrel.

He made this statement in Brussels ahead of a meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers, as reported by The Moscow Times, citing Unian.

"The EU should go beyond the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. The price cap on Russian oil should be $30," Sybiha stressed.

According to Sybiha, further tightening of restrictions is necessary because Vladimir Putin continues the war and shows no intention of stopping it. "Europe needs full diplomatic mobilization to deter Russian aggression and restore peace on the continent. Ukraine is not an obstacle to ending the war," added Kyiv's top diplomat.

It's worth noting that after a Monday discussion with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump announced that Moscow and Kyiv would "immediately" begin negotiations for a ceasefire and armistice. "The conditions will be discussed between the two sides, as is natural, because they know the details of the negotiations that no one else knows," the White House leader stated.

Following his phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump implied he was willing to abandon further attempts to end the war in Ukraine. This prompted European leaders and some members of the Republican Party in the United States to urge the Trump administration not to withdraw from the peace efforts.
