Maia Sandu is on a working visit to Bucharest

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, will go on a working visit to Bucharest on Thursday, February 23, where she will meet the leader of Cotroceni, Klaus Iohannis, informs the Romanian Presidency.

"The political consultations of Presidents Klaus Iohannis and Maia Sandu are part of the comprehensive framework of close bilateral and European cooperation, as well as Romania's clear and firm support for the Republic of Moldova and its resilience," reads the statement of the Presidential Administration.

According to the source, during the discussions, common projects of strategic interest in the fields of energy, transport, health, education or information society will be addressed, with an emphasis on initiatives aimed at connecting the Republic of Moldova with the European Union, with real and concrete benefits for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova .

"At the same time, the status and support of Romania regarding the European path of the Republic of Moldova will be discussed. Also, the two Presidents will have an exchange of views on security challenges, as well as ways to manage the economic, social and humanitarian effects of Russia's aggression in Ukraine", the Romanian Presidency announced.

The visit was announced a day after the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, went to Poland, where the US President, Joe Biden, gave a historic speech, one year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The US President had a meeting with Maia Sandu, where he reaffirmed his strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. Biden emphasized continued US assistance to help Moldova build its political and economic resilience, including its democratic reform agenda and energy security, as well as to address the effects of Russia's war against Ukraine.
