Azerbaijani poet awarded in Chisinau for translating Grigore Vieru's poetry
Literature serves as a bridge that fosters mutual understanding of cultural values. A testament to this is the recognition of Salim Babullaoglu, a prominent Azerbaijani writer, who was awarded in Chisinau for his translation of Grigore Vieru's verses. Readers in his home country are also familiar with other authors from Romanian culture, whose works he has translated as well.
"He dedicated his pen and muse to translating poetry from Romanian literature in our space. I am referring, first and foremost, to Eminescu," says the poet Ion Hadârcă.
"The last book I translated was a selection of Grigore Vieru's poetry titled 'Cântec cu acul,' which collects 50 translations of various poems," said Salim Babullaoglu.
Ion Hadârcă and Salim Babullaoglu visited the Teleradio-Moldova Company and discussed the importance of cultural dialogue between countries.
“This means the power of culture, this means the power of literature. It is a firm indicator of the fact that what culture, art and literature mean in this space, in the Republic of Moldova, is also of great interest to the reader and consumer from other parts”, declared Andrei Zapşa, general director for development at the Teleradio-Moldova Company.
“I think that we need to organize meetings of Moldovan authors with Azerbaijani readers because they need to have a live dialogue with their readers”, stated Salim Babullaoglu.
“A builder of bridges, of cultural ties that are now very viable and exemplary”, said Ion Hadârcă.
Salim Babullaoglu was awarded the "Nicolae Milescu-Spătaru" medal of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova for his outstanding contribution to strengthening Moldovan-Azerbaijani cultural ties.
