Prime Minister Dorin Recean responded to the proposals discussed in the Transnistrian region concerning the blocking of communications without a court decision. He explained that the authorities in Chișinău are unable to intervene at this time to enforce the law on the left bank of the Nistru.

"I want to remind you that there is an unconstitutional regime in place there. What we have are criminals, not legitimate administrations. The goal of the Government and the Republic of Moldova is to reintegrate the Transnistrian region and to control the territory properly," stated Recean when asked if Chisinau had received a response to its inquiries from Tiraspol regarding its position on the proposed amendments.

Recean acknowledged that the Government currently lacks any means of intervention if the new measures are imposed on those who do not support the separatist regime.

"I reiterate, there is an unconstitutional regime where, unfortunately, we do not have a way to ensure that the law is upheld at this stage. Our goal is to reintegrate the country, after which the law will be applied uniformly everywhere," said Recean.

We remind you that Tiraspol may disconnect mobile phone and internet services under the guise of a so-called security threat. This possibility is outlined in several amendments proposed for approval in the so-called Supreme Soviet in mid-May.

Consequently, communication services could be suspended for up to 48 hours without a court decision, based solely on the request of an official from the Transnistrian security structures.

The Promo-LEX Association and the People's Advocate stated that such provisions violate the right to free expression and access to information, thereby limiting citizens' ability to seek help or report abuses.
