After a two-year break, kidney transplants were resumed in the Republic of Moldova

In the Republic of Moldova, kidney transplants have resumed, after a break of over two years, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The first three interventions were performed by a multidisciplinary team, composed of urologists, nephrologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists-reanimatologists, nurses from the operating room, of the "Timofei Moșneaga" Republican Clinical Hospital.

Kidneys taken from brain-dead donors were transplanted into patients with end-stage renal disease who were on dialysis and on the transplant waiting list. "For these patients, the transplant was the only chance for life. Their rescue was possible thanks to the altruism of the donor families and the professionalism of the medical teams, involved in the donation and transplant activity, from the SCR "Timofei Moșneaga" and the „Sfânta Treime” Municipal Clinical Hospital, states the Ministry of Health. The patients, 47, 49 and 60 years old, have been discharged and are feeling well, the source states.
