The Republic of Moldova celebrates International Children's Day

World Children's Day is celebrated on June 1 in the Republic of Moldova. Various cultural and entertainment activities are being organized in several locations across the country, including Chisinau.
"Happy birthday, dear children! May you enjoy a happy childhood with your parents and grandparents. We, the adults, will ensure that the skies above you are always clear.
Make the most of your summer vacation! Summer begins today with joy, games, and surprises at the State Residence in Condrița, starting at 11:00," said President Maia Sandu.
"On World Children's Day, I am thinking of all the children from disadvantaged families in Moldova, including those with disabilities, those living in poverty, marginalized children, those who have experienced violence and abandonment, as well as children without parents. My heart goes out to all the sad children in our country. I hope for a day, specifically on June 1, when all these children can call themselves happy, feel the love of a family, receive a quality education, and have equal opportunities," said the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu.
Today, the State Residence in Condrița will be transformed into the Children’s Residence, where kids will have the opportunity to participate in educational activities focused on the environment. They will learn about recycling, watch demonstrations on planting, and take part in forest hikes. In addition, there will be play areas for children, a gastronomic space, and a concert.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, in collaboration with the Moldovan Railway, will launch the "Childhood Train," a symbolic journey dedicated to young passengers.
The Ministry of Energy will organize a visit to the Termoelectrica enterprise, while the Ministry of Defense will conduct activities and competitions for children at the military training ground in Cahul.
In the Republic of Moldova, Children’s Day has been celebrated since the 1990s. In 2023, the Parliament adopted a bill amending the Labor Code to declare June 1 a non-working holiday.
International Children’s Day is celebrated on the first day of summer in over 50 countries around the globe, while more than a hundred other nations celebrate a children’s day on various dates.
The first dedicated day for children was celebrated in Turkey on April 23, 1920. June 1st became recognized as Children's Day in 1925 when the World Conference for the Welfare of Children took place in Geneva, leading to the adoption of the Declaration for the Protection of Children. Furthermore, in 1954, the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) recommended that each country designate a day to honor children.
