Ex-"Șor" Party central office secretary stays under judicial control 60 more days

The secretary of the central office of the former "Sor" Party, which has been declared unconstitutional, will remain under judicial control. This decision was made after the court approved the prosecutors' request on June 4 to extend the preventive measure for an additional 60 days. State prosecutors expressed concerns that the defendant might evade the court’s examination of the case.

The secretary is facing accusations in a criminal case examined by the Bashkan of UTA Gagauzia, Evghenia Guțul.

Evghenia Guțul is alleged to have been involved in introducing illegal funds into the Republic of Moldova. The funds' origins are traced back to an organized criminal group mainly operating from the Russian Federation. Investigators claim that the sums of money were transported to the Republic of Moldova via round-trip air and land flights completed within 24 hours and used for political purposes.

Additionally, Guțul is suspected of having coordinated payments to participants in protests organized by the "Sor" Party in front of various state institutions, including Parliament, the Government, the Presidency, and the General Prosecutor’s Office.

Currently, the Bashkan of Gagauzia is under house arrest in a case being investigated by the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office. The case pertains to the fraudulent management of funds during the April 2023 electoral campaign when she ran for governor of the autonomous region.
