MEC targets record university admissions. Perciun: “We aim to raise the number of students choosing local universities”

The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) aims to surpass the record for admissions to higher education set in 2024, when the highest number of young people in the past eight years chose to pursue their studies in the Republic of Moldova. According to Minister Dan Perciun, the goal for 2025 is to attract approximately 16,000 young people to the bachelor's program and to increase the proportion of students choosing universities in the country from 5 out of 10, as was the case last year, to 6 out of 10.

Dan Perciun stated during a press conference that modernizing infrastructure, adjusting study programs, and promoting universities are strategic objectives for the ministry. He emphasized the importance of these efforts to attract parents and students to experience firsthand what the university system in Moldova has to offer.

Over the past year, the ministry has undertaken several initiatives to encourage students to pursue their studies in Moldova. One notable action is the "Study in Moldova" campaign, which included organizing 10 regional university fairs. Additionally, more than 5,000 12th-grade students participated in visits to higher education institutions, where they had the chance to explore laboratories and engage directly with the academic community.

According to the minister, approximately 500 million lei have been invested in modernising universities in the Republic of Moldova over the last four years. This funding has been used to equip laboratories, renovate classrooms, and update programs to better align with labor market demands and young people's expectations.
