In a heartfelt conversation on Magazinul Copiilor, aired by Moldova 1 on International Children’s Day, Prime Minister Dorin Recean offered a glimpse into his childhood spent in the village of Mândâc during the 1970s and 1980s.

He described summer as a time of joy and hard work—mowing hay, harvesting cherries, and helping with the household chores. One vivid memory he shared was that of picking cherries with his friends: “We used to bring a pot from home, fill it with cherries, eat some, and then bring the rest back.”

Recean also recalled the simple pleasures of playing chess, battleships, and hockey on frozen rivers during winter. One summer, after working in the kolkhoz, he earned a holiday on the shores of the Black Sea in Odesa—a reward that left a lasting impression.

Asked about his childhood dreams, he smiled and admitted that he once wanted to become a cosmonaut or an oceanographer, inspired by Soviet science fiction and the documentaries of Jacques-Yves Cousteau. These dreams, though never pursued, reflected his early fascination with science and exploration.

From the official residence in Condrița, where the interview was filmed, the Prime Minister addressed children across Moldova with a warm message: “Be curious, be honest, and enjoy your summer!”

His reflections offered not only a nostalgic journey into his formative years, but also a reminder of how childhood curiosity and imagination can shape a lifetime.
