Investing in Moldova: Capital market set for major upgrades
Moldova's capital market is poised for a significant transformation, aiming to become a safe, transparent, and attractive mechanism for investors.
Today, the Executive approved the National Capital Market Development Strategy for 2025-2030. This strategic document aims to strengthen the market's role in financing the economy and promoting Moldova's sustainable development. "The capital market faces several challenges, including the lack of an efficient mechanism for financing the economy. This strategy addresses these issues through reforms and measures that will modernize the market's infrastructure and stimulate investments," stated Finance Minister Victoria Belous during a Government meeting.
According to the Minister, the document aims to boost confidence in capital market instruments and attract more investors, partly through financial education and measures to support their active participation. Authorities also plan to develop new financial instruments, such as mortgage, green, and project bonds, designed to diversify investment options.
Another key objective is to increase companies' access to long-term financing and promote the opportunities offered by the capital market to the business community. Concurrently, the financial intermediation sector will be strengthened to facilitate interaction between investors and issuers.
The Strategy also includes modernizing the capital market's infrastructure by developing an electronic platform for auctions and post-trading operations. This platform will offer high security and reduced costs, enabling integration into the regional financial market.
The strategy's implementation will be monitored through clear indicators, and the National Commission for Financial Market will present semi-annual and annual reports to Parliament on the progress made.
