Moldova invests €37.4M in university modernization

The Moldovan Government has announced an additional €37.4 million investment to modernize university infrastructure, enhance living conditions in student dormitories, and equip research institutions.
This funding is sourced from a supplementary €30 million loan obtained from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and an $8.475 million grant.
These sums are outlined in Amendment No. 3 to the Financing Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the International Development Association (IDA), and in the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which were both ratified by the Government today.
"Approximately €15 million will be allocated for renovating university dormitories, and around €12 million for equipping research institutions through a grant program," stated Dan Perciun, the Minister of Education and Research, during today's Government meeting.
The remaining resources will be channeled towards digitalization, revenue growth, and enhanced financial management.
Furthermore, as more international students are attracted to Moldovan universities, teaching materials will be developed to meet international standards, and academic staff will be trained to teach in English and other foreign languages.
"These investments will help us foster a well-educated and productive young generation for society," Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized.
The Ministry of Education highlighted that, in recent years, 500 million lei have been allocated to universities and colleges, and 1.3 billion lei for the development of Moldova's network of model schools, an "unprecedented sum since independence."
