Video: “Little Brașov” in Moldova — a growing tourist hotspot

A lookout point in the Republic of Moldova is known as "Little Brașov" because it provides visitors with a stunning panoramic view of the Codrii (Moldovan woods), located in the center of the country. The "La Hâlboc" lookout point, situated at the edge of the deepest natural hollow near the village of Vălcineț in the Călărași district, is becoming increasingly popular among hiking enthusiasts and those seeking fresh air.
Local guide Mariana Iurcu claims that the area holds not only natural beauty but also significant historical importance.
"One of the most recent tourist attractions, it is rich in history and full of legends," she told Moldova 1.
Iurcu notes that several historical personalities have passed through this region. Russian general Mikhail Kutuzov recorded in his diary in 1793 that he had never seen more beautiful places than those in Vălcineț and Călărași. The medieval mail route, which included mandatory stops, also traversed this area.
The name "Hâlboc" is derived from a local legend, and along the edge of the natural depression, there are signs of rulers and soldiers who once passed through.
"The residents of this village, along with the Crăciun family, have worked hard to enhance the appeal of this site," says Mariana Iurcu.
During the pandemic, the villagers mobilized to clean and decorate the area, marking its inauguration with a beautiful wedding held right on the edge of the depression.
While the area is not fully decorated yet, locals believe this helps preserve its authentic charm. Visitors can reach the site by car or on foot, and once there, they can experience the “connection between heaven and earth,” assures Mariana Iurcu.
