Evaluation committee questioned anti-corruption prosecutors Octavian Iachimovschi and Alexandru Cernei.

The Prosecutors' Evaluation Commission held a public hearing on Monday to question two prosecutors from the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office: Octavian Iachimovschi, the interim deputy chief prosecutor, and Alexandru Cernei. These hearings are part of the external integrity evaluation process that was initiated in 2024.
The evaluation process required the submission of declarations detailing assets and personal interests from the past five years. It also involved completing a questionnaire on ethical integrity and providing supporting documents. Both prosecutors met the deadlines and submitted all requested documents, including additional materials, reads a statement from the Evaluation Commission.
During the hearings, Octavian Iachimovschi responded to 36 questions covering 105 clarification topics and addressed 64 additional requests for documents. His integrity was verified by consulting 33 authorities, public institutions, and open sources.
The Commission concluded that there were no doubts regarding his financial and ethical integrity. Iachimovschi commented that the evaluation process is “complicated” and puts pressure on prosecutors. “I urge my colleagues to be patient, and I expect the Commission to complete this process soon,” he added.
In Alexandru Cernei's case, he answered 33 questions, including 62 clarification topics, and responded to 41 requests for supporting documents. His integrity was verified by consulting 30 sources.
The Commission raised questions concerning potential doubts about his financial integrity. Cernei provided explanations and requested that the Commission thoroughly analyse all information submitted, both in writing and during the hearings.
He expressed appreciation for the Commission's efforts, recognizing the extensive volume of information reviewed. "The effort made by the members of the Commission and the secretariat is commendable, as a significant amount of information was examined. In terms of volume, this is equivalent to a case we were also investigating. To make correct and objective decisions, it is essential to have experience in various fields beyond just finance, along with a high level of professionalism," said Alexandru Cernei.
The press release also informs that the hearings for the two prosecutors were conducted within Panel B of the Commission, which included Virginia Moraru (chair), Cornel Lebedinschi (national member), and Irmantas Mikelionis (international member).
