Orange Moldova warns: Beware of new 5G phone scam

A mobile operator in the Republic of Moldova is warning citizens not to grant access to their devices or personal information to individuals who contact them falsely claiming to be Orange Moldova employees.

According to the company, this is a new scam where people are called and falsely told that changes are needed in their phone settings.

"Recently, we've received an increasing number of complaints from customers who report they've been contacted by unknown individuals posing as Orange Moldova employees. On the call, they're told that Orange is transitioning from 4G to 5G technology and that urgent changes need to be made to their phone settings. Otherwise, they claim, services won't work correctly. In reality, the scammers are trying to gain access to the customer's phone by coercing them into installing a remote control application. Their goal is to steal personal data, install malware, and compromise the phone's security," explains the mobile operator.

Therefore, the mobile phone company warns citizens that these calls are made by scammers.

To prevent such situations, we recommend not giving access to your device or personal information without additional verification. Furthermore, do not install any applications or software from unknown or suspicious sources. Always contact Orange Customer Support directly for any inquiries, and make sure you only get information from official sources.
