Travel alert for Russia: MFA warns Moldovan citizens of risks of harassment and abuse

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) of the Republic of Moldova issued a travel alert regarding the Russian Federation due to reports of harassment, intimidation, and abusive treatment directed at Moldovan citizens within that country. The ministry states that these incidents indicate a systematic policy implemented by the Moscow authorities against citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

The recent case announced by the Russian special services involves the detention of two citizens from the Republic of Moldova, who are allegedly undercover agents of the Intelligence and Security Service. Chisinau classified this allegation as "unfounded and speculative."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently reviewing several similar cases and has noted that the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Moscow has requested consular access to the detained citizens; however, the Russian authorities refused to cooperate.

"The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Moscow requested consular access for several detained Moldovan citizens, but the Russian side denied this request. We are taking all necessary diplomatic steps to provide consular assistance to these citizens," reports the ministry in Chisinau.

We remind you that on the morning of June 25, the Russian press announced the detention of the two Moldovan citizens in Moscow, who are accused of acting as undercover agents for the Intelligence and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova.

According to a statement from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the two individuals entered the Russian Federation using false documents and fictitious identities with the intent of engaging in "activities directed against the national security of Russia."
