Trump hails NATO Summit as "monumental US success"

The NATO summit, held Wednesday in The Hague, was a "monumental success" for the US, stated President Donald Trump, referencing the substantial increase in defense spending agreed upon by member state leaders. (According to AFP, cited by Agerpres.)
"It's a monumental success for the US because we were spending far more than our fair share," the American president told a press conference after the summit. During the summit, NATO leaders—with the exception of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez—pledged their countries would allocate 5% of their GDP to defense within a decade.
Donald Trump criticized Spain's dissenting stance, threatening that a trade deal would force the country to pay twice what it would have if it had agreed to allocate 5% of its GDP to military spending.
Additionally, on the sidelines of the summit, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who he stated was keen to end the war with Russia. Trump also announced an upcoming phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump elaborated that in a recent discussion he told the Kremlin leader: "Help me reach a deal with you" to end the war in Ukraine. He also suggested at the press conference that Putin might have territorial ambitions beyond Ukraine.
