Soroca is investing in green energy! A former landfill in Vasilcău was transformed into a photovoltaic park with a capacity of 200 kilowatts. This project, funded by the national "European Village II" program, will contribute to local development and environmental protection.

What was once an unauthorized landfill at the entrance to Vasilcău village, Soroca district, has been transformed into a modern photovoltaic park—an ambitious green energy project supported through the national "European Village II" program.

The initiative represents a significant investment in both sustainability and local development. With a total value exceeding 4 million lei, the project is financed by the National Office for Regional and Local Development. It aims to supply clean energy while boosting the commune’s budget.

“Following a feasibility study, it was determined that Vasilcău City Hall will receive 500,000 lei annually as a result of this project,” stated Fiodor Golub, mayor of Vasilcău commune. “It’s an impressive and beneficial amount that will support the development of our locality.”

The solar energy generated by the new park will be delivered directly to the national distribution networks. However, the real impact will be felt locally.

“The benefit is for the residents of Vasilcău,” the mayor added. “We’ve fully illuminated the commune, which requires funding for street lighting. In addition, all institutions under City Hall’s authority use electricity for heating or air conditioning, so this park will help cover those costs.”

Residents also view the project as a significant win. Beyond the energy savings, they appreciate the transformation of a degraded space into a functional, modern asset.

“This used to be a garbage dump,” said a local resident. “Now it's cleaned up, and it will provide electricity for our public institutions and street lighting. We’re looking forward to it being fully connected.”

“Once the project is connected, we’ll save money—and those savings can be redirected to other community needs,” said residents.

The total cost of the investment exceeds four million lei and is financed by the National Office for Regional and Local Development through the national program "European Village II".
