Moldova’s EU support slightly drops, Russia ties eyed

Most citizens in the Republic of Moldova still support joining the European Union, though support for this option has slightly decreased compared to the previous month.
At the same time, a significant portion of the population also favors closer relations with Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union, according to iData.
A survey conducted in June 2025 reveals that 61.4% of Moldovans are in favor of the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union. Meanwhile, 26.2% are against, and 12.4% are undecided or did not respond.
Compared to May, support for European integration dropped by nearly 2 percentage points, from 63.3% to 61.4%.
Support for EU Integration: Higher in the South and Centre
The highest percentages of support for EU accession are recorded in the Center-South region and Chișinău municipality, where in some districts, the percentage exceeds 72%.
Conversely, support is lower in the North of the country and Gagauzia, where in some localities, it falls below 33%.
Nearly four in ten Moldovans favor closer relations with Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union
When asked if they support the Republic of Moldova's rapprochement with Russia and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, 38.1% of respondents answered affirmatively, while 47.3% are against, and 14.6% were undecided or did not provide a clear answer.
However, the sociologist noted that support for this rapprochement is higher than anticipated when considering other sociopolitical criteria. "Nevertheless, a significant percentage actually desires this rapprochement, and this percentage is greater than the proportion of ethnic minorities in the Republic of Moldova or the combined score of left-wing parties. Consequently, there are Moldovans who, at the same time, are for integration into the European Union but also want good relations with Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union."

Geographical distribution: Opposing directions for EU and Russia
EU integration is most strongly supported in Chișinău and the Center-South districts.
Closer relations with Russia record the highest scores in Gagauzia, the South of the republic, and some Northern districts, such as Bălți.
The survey was conducted from June 14–23, 2025, on a sample of 1,015 respondents from 310 localities in the Republic of Moldova. The margin of error is ±3%, and the data collection method was mixed: 80% by phone (CATI) and 20% face-to-face (CAPI). The data was collected by Field Logistics, commissioned by iData.
