German FM visits Moldova after secret Kyiv trip

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul will make a brief visit to Moldova on Tuesday, July 1.

According to the official schedule, the German minister will visit the Nativity of the Lord Metropolitan Cathedral in central Chișinău at around 6:00 PM.

Afterwards, he will deliver a press statement outside the cathedral but will not take any questions from the media, as announced by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Moldova.

Wadephul is also scheduled to meet with representatives of various religious denominations, followed by a dinner with Moldovan President Maia Sandu.

On Monday, Johann Wadephul visited Kyiv — his first trip to the Ukrainian capital since assuming the role of foreign minister last month, according to Ukrainian media. The visit was kept secret for security reasons until his arrival. Wadephul travelled to Kyiv by train, accompanied by representatives of Germany’s defense industry, reports Agerpres.

Between June 20 and 22, President Maia Sandu paid a working visit to Germany, where she held meetings with senior officials. During her stay in Munich, she was awarded the Franz Josef Strauss Prize by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, in recognition of her commitment to democracy, freedom, and Moldova’s European path.
