Moldova prosecutors pass initial integrity test

On June 30, the Prosecutor's Evaluation Commission held public hearings for Marcel Dumbravan, the interim Chief Prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, and his interim deputy, Mariana Leahu.
Dumbravan was recently named the winner of the competition for the top leadership position by the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
Following a comprehensive process of information gathering and analysis, and the clarification of specific aspects or issues during written questioning rounds, the Evaluation Commission found no concerns regarding the ethical and financial integrity of the two prosecutors that warranted discussion during the hearing.
The next procedural step involves issuing evaluation reports with recommendations for the Superior Council of Prosecutors. The Council will then decide whether the two prosecutors meet the ethical and financial integrity criteria established by law.
Subsequently, Marcel Dumbravan is expected to be appointed Chief Prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office by interim Prosecutor General Alexandru Machidon.
It is worth mentioning that Marcel Dumbravan was designated the winner of the competition for the Chief Prosecutor position at the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office by a June 23 decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP). Following the evaluation, Marcel Dumbravan scored 76.64 points, while Octavian Iachimovschi scored 72.44 points.
