Spain's women dominate Portugal 5-0 at Euro opener

Spain's women's national football team started their European Championship campaign with a bang.
In a Group B match in Bern, "La Furia Roja" decisively defeated Portugal 5-0. The artificial pitch at Wankdorf Stadium didn't bother the Spanish players at all. As strong favorites for the competition, they displayed technical superiority, aggressive pressing, and excellent organization. Esther Gonzalez netted a brace for the winners, with the other goals scored by Vicky Lopez – who started in place of two-time Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmatí, currently recovering from viral meningitis – Alexia Putellas, and Cristina Martin-Pireto.
In the other Group B match, Italy's national team secured a 1-0 victory over Belgium, thanks to a goal from Arianna Caruso just before halftime. Both games were preceded by a minute of silence in memory of Portuguese FC Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre, who tragically lost their lives in a road accident on a Spanish road.
