Fifteen schools in Moldova will be modernized with a €5 million grant

Fifteen educational institutions in the Republic of Moldova will undergo significant renovations to improve energy efficiency, thanks to a grant agreement valued at € 5 million. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft decision to sign the agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe Development Bank during their meeting on July 9.
The selected schools are being modernised under the “model schools” concept.
The planned improvements include complete thermal insulation of the buildings, the installation of automatic temperature control systems and energy meters, the replacement of conventional lighting with energy-efficient options, and the installation of solar and photovoltaic panels.
"We proposed a grant of 5 million euros dedicated to the model schools initiative. Two weeks ago, we approved 30 million euros in reimbursable financing for 15 educational institutions. These 5 million euros will complement that financing and will be invested in the renovation, modernization, and energy efficiency of several educational institutions. Currently, we are expanding the number of schools participating in this initiative to 90 and are in the process of identifying additional resources to renovate these institutions fully," stated Dan Perciun, the Minister of Education and Research, during the government meeting.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized that "investments in education remain a strategic necessity for the Republic of Moldova."
According to the authorities, these upgrades are expected to reduce thermal energy consumption by up to 60% and electricity consumption by approximately 30%.
Overall, around 12,800 students and 800 teachers will benefit from these enhanced conditions in educational institutions.
