Former U.S. envoy appointed Moldova's ambassador to Sweden

The former ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the United States and Mexico, Viorel Ursu, will head our diplomatic mission in Sweden.
The Foreign Policy and European Integration Committee of the Legislature approved a favourable advisory opinion regarding the agreed candidacy during today’s meeting.
Viorel Ursu is a diplomat and expert in European affairs, bringing over 20 years of experience in international relations, democracy promotion, and the European Union enlargement process.
He previously served as the Director of the Europe Department at the Open Society Foundation in London, where he coordinated initiatives aimed at promoting good governance, the rule of law, and strengthening civil society. Before that, he worked as a senior political analyst at the Open Society European Policy Institute in Brussels, focusing on the development of EU policies for the Eastern Neighborhood.
Ursu began his professional career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also served as a lecturer at the State University of Moldova, where he taught courses on International Law and Human Rights. He holds a Law degree from the State University of Moldova and a Master's degree in European Studies from the College of Europe in Poland.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that the appointment of the new ambassador is part of the Republic of Moldova’s ongoing efforts to strengthen efficient and results-oriented diplomacy.
