Experts note Trump’s growing criticism of Putin: "Russia's war in Ukraine targets the West"

Moscow has exploited various crises and the decline in international support for Kyiv to destabilize the security framework. Meanwhile, the United States is adopting a strong stance in light of shifting geopolitical dynamics. US President Donald Trump's rhetoric suggests a reevaluation of Vladimir Putin and Moscow's strategies, as noted by Black Sea expert Mihai Isac during the Moldova 1 show "IN CONTEXT," broadcast on July 9.
The expert emphasizes that the war in Ukraine is not an isolated conflict; rather, it is part of a broader global confrontation initiated by the Kremlin against the Western order.
"It is very likely that we will observe new developments in other regions of the world. What is happening in Ukraine is, in fact, part of a global war launched by the Russian Federation against the Western world," declared Mihai Isac on Moldova 1.
According to Isac, Russia is exploiting international distractions and the waning political support for Ukraine in the West, particularly amid the conflict between Jerusalem and Tehran, as well as during a complicated election year in the European Union and the United Kingdom.
"It is evident that, at this moment, at least Mr. Trump has recognized the threat posed by the tactics employed by the Russian Federation to hinder diplomatic negotiations," stated Mihai Isac.
The analyst believes that the Trump administration might struggle with a lack of expertise in dealing with Russia, particularly during these institutional crises: "There are security lapses that are difficult to imagine in a country that possesses the most advanced technical means to defend its interests. We are dealing with individuals who do not necessarily have extensive long-term experience in engaging with the Russian Federation."
Currently, American military resources are split between supporting Ukraine and fulfilling security commitments in the Middle East. The U.S. must also focus on its own security, and the unfolding situation in the Middle East, including support for Israel, has impacted military stockpiles in Europe and the Near East.
"However, the U.S. has a tremendous industrial capacity. New resources will undoubtedly be identified to support Ukraine," the Black Sea region expert expressed optimism.
Although American support does not yield immediate results on the front lines, Ukraine continues to hold its ground and launch strategic counterattacks.
"Ukraine is often compelled to defend itself. With what weapons can it do so? We have witnessed the contributions from Ukrainian special operations within the territory of the Russian Federation, including attacks on strategic air bases and efforts to dismantle the manufacturing of drones. Simultaneously, Ukraine demonstrates its willingness to engage in negotiations," concluded Mihai Isac.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a conversation with US President Donald Trump. During their discussion, they addressed topics related to cooperation in the defense industry, including joint production, particularly in the drone sector, as well as mutual investments and purchases. Following this conversation, Donald Trump announced that the US would send new weapons to Ukraine, despite the White House's prior announcement that it would suspend some arms deliveries.
Experts believe that the US decision to resume arms deliveries to Ukraine is crucial for maintaining a balance of power in the ongoing war. They emphasize that Ukraine relies not only on weapons but also on the consistency of support from its allies.
