The final two topics for this summer, Chapter 15 - Energy and Chapter 21 - Trans-European Energy Networks, will be discussed on July 10 and 11 in Brussels, announced Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov.

“According to the latest enlargement package, our country has made significant progress in the energy sector by implementing concrete measures to diversify natural gas and electricity supply routes. This effort has helped us reduce our dependence on a single source, specifically the Russian Federation,” said Cristina Gherasimov.

Zinaida Mardari, the Head of the Directorate for Coordination of Public Policies and European Integration at the Ministry of Energy, stated that for citizens, the implementation of these policies will lead to greater energy security through a diversification of supply sources.

“For citizens, these policies will enhance resilience in the face of energy crises, reduce the risk of interruptions, stabilise energy prices, protect vulnerable consumers, facilitate a faster transition to green energy, and improve energy efficiency in homes and industries, which will ultimately result in lower bills. Additionally, we will connect our energy networks to the European ones, creating a modern energy system,” said Zinaida Mardari.

It is worth noting that on June 25, 2024, our country officially initiated accession negotiations to join the European Union. This historic moment was marked by the first Intergovernmental Conference between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, held in Luxembourg.

Furthermore, on June 26, the leaders of the 27 member states of the European Union officially invited the EU Council to take the next steps in the Republic of Moldova's accession process by opening negotiation clusters once the necessary conditions are met.

According to the European Commission, "the cluster on fundamentals is ready to be opened," and the European Council has acknowledged this assessment.
