Bashkan Evghenia Guțul’s house arrest extended by 30 days

The governor of the Gagauz Autonomous Region of Moldova, Evghenia Guțul, will remain under house arrest for an additional 30 days, until August 12. This decision was made by the magistrates of the Chisinau Court based in Ciocana on Thursday, July 10.
The prosecutors requested a nine-year prison sentence for Evghenia Guțul, along with the seizure of assets worth 40 million lei. The verdict in her case is scheduled to be pronounced on August 5 at 12:00 PM.
Guțul is accused of participating in the systematic transport of funds from the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, intended for the illegal financing of the "Shor" Party. In total, she is believed to have knowingly accepted 42.5 million lei from an organized criminal group.
We remind you that Evghenia Guțul was detained on March 25 at Chișinău International Airport while attempting to leave Moldova. Law enforcement officials reported at the time that she had tried to evade criminal prosecution.
After her detention, she was placed in preventive custody for 20 days. On April 9, the magistrates of the Chișinău Court decided to transfer her from the isolation ward to house arrest, a decision that was upheld by the Centru Court of Appeal.
Evghenia Guțul denies all charges and does not plead guilty.
