Moldova: Anti-Corruption raids target Taraclia officials

Searches are underway at several addresses in Chișinău municipality and the southern districts in a case involving abuse of office and financial damages to the budget of the Taraclia local public administration.
According to the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), the investigation targets public officials and individuals holding high-ranking positions within the Taraclia local public authorities, as well as representatives of businesses.
These individuals are suspected of having acted from 2021 to the present, aiming to obtain undue financial gains by preferentially awarding local road repair contracts in violation of the law.
Decision-makers within the Taraclia LPA allegedly acted in the interest of a legal entity, repeatedly favoring the awarding of public contracts to a specific business and disregarding the lowest price offered by other bidders.
These actions violated the provisions of the Public Procurement Law and the Law on Local Public Administration, resulting in damages to the local budget.
The searches are being carried out by officers of the National Anticorruption Center, in conjunction with prosecutors from the Chișinău Municipal Prosecutor's Office, to establish all circumstances of the case, identify all involved parties, and hold them criminally accountable.
