Around 126,000 consumers lost power due to a high-voltage network failure

On Monday, July 14, approximately 126,000 consumers in the Republic of Moldova experienced a temporary power outage due to a failure in the high-voltage networks operated by ÎCS Premier Energy Distribution SA. The disruption occurred between 1:15 p.m. and 1:19 p.m., resulting in the automatic shutdown of nine 110 kV substations and three 35 kV substations, as reported by the company.
According to Premier Energy, the outage occurred while scheduled work was being carried out to replace a damaged pylon. At the same time, another overhead power line was affected by a broken conductor.
The state-owned enterprise "Moldelectrica" provided additional details, stating that the incident was caused by damage to the backup circuit in Premier Energy's network, following a fire. Although the affected line does not belong to Moldelectrica, the impact spread to the transmission network.
"The protection and automation systems operated according to design parameters, allowing for the rapid isolation of the affected portion and maintaining the operational stability of the National Power System (NPS). There were no consequences for high-voltage transmission facilities or critical equipment managed by the State Enterprise 'Moldelectrica'," reads a statement of the company.
The system is currently operating normally and reliably. Both institutions assured the public that they are monitoring the situation in real-time and are prepared to intervene promptly in the event of further issues.
