EU reaffirms support for Moldova’s EU accession and security strengthening

The main topics discussed during the meeting in Brussels between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, and Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, were the political and security developments in Moldova and the support provided by the European Union to strengthen the country's resilience.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the EU Partnership Mission to the Republic of Moldova (EUPM) and the European Rapid Response Teams that are involved in countering hybrid threats, particularly in cybersecurity and tackling disinformation. He also thanked the EU for the financial support provided through the European Peace Facility (EPF).

“The European Union is a reliable partner for the Republic of Moldova, and our relationship is built on shared values and mutual respect. The EU's ongoing support enhances our resilience. Also, Moldova is prepared to actively contribute to regional and global security and stability,” declared Mihai Popșoi.

Kaja Kallas, for her part, reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to continuing support for the Republic of Moldova on its path to European integration. She emphasized the importance of identifying new instruments to deepen cooperation in the areas of security and defense.

We remind you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, is on an official visit to Brussels, Belgium, from July 14 to July 15. During this visit, the Moldovan foreign minister will participate in a meeting of the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council. He will discuss with his counterparts from EU member states the agenda for Moldova's accession to the European Union, the regional security context, new opportunities for cooperation with the EU in security, and measures to strengthen resilience against hybrid threats.
