Moldova boosts energy security with gas & power line progress

The state-owned company Energocom has successfully secured half of the gas volume needed for 2025–2026.

This announcement was made by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu ahead of a government meeting on July 16. According to him, acquisitions are ongoing, and the prices obtained are "very good."

The gas is being purchased from the European market and stored in storage facilities in Romania and Ukraine, Junghietu added.

"Currently, Energocom has secured nearly 50% of the gas stock, totaling 320 million cubic meters," the minister stated. "As I mentioned before, the price will be made public once the acquisition process is finalized, so as not to influence competitiveness."

Furthermore, the minister announced progress on the Vulcănești–Chișinău high-voltage power line. "Last week, work began on installing conductors on the Vulcănești–Chișinău energy independence line," Junghietu said, adding that the government is monitoring the work.

"The project is over 75% complete," the minister clarified, emphasizing that the goal is to have the line operational by the end of this year.
