Maia Sandu, message of condolences after the tragedy in Greece: "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost loved ones"

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has delivered a message of condolences to Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who is on an official visit to Chisinau, and to the Greek people after the tragic train accident that took the lives of dozens of people and injured dozens more.

"On her visit to Chisinau today, I convey my deepest condolences to the President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and to the Greek people on the tragic train accident in central Greece last night. Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those who have lost loved ones," President Sandu wrote on her Twitter page.

At least 32 people died and 85 were injured Tuesday night in Greece after a cargo ship and a train carrying 350 passengers collided. The death toll is provisional, say local authorities, who say rescue operations are still ongoing. The Greek press reports that this is "the worst rail accident Greece has ever seen".

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou is on an official visit to Moldova today. The last visit of a Greek president to Chisinau took place in 2004. Then our country was visited by Constantinos Stephanopoulos.
