Cars stranded, trees downed: storm causes damage in the capital and districts

Last night, torrential rains and strong winds caused significant damage in various areas of the Republic of Moldova. The severe weather led to flooding, fallen trees, and power outages. Rescuers and firefighters began their interventions early in the morning to address the challenges created by these conditions.

In Chisinau, on Calea Iesilor Street, a car with two passengers became stuck on a flooded section of road. The emergency crew successfully towed the vehicle and safely evacuated the passengers. Another request for assistance came from Aerodromului Street No. 6, where a tree, felled by the wind, was precariously hanging over power lines. Firefighters promptly intervened to remove it.

In the Hancesti district, at the entrance to the village of Mereseni, strong winds knocked down another tree, necessitating the intervention of firefighters to clear the obstruction. Additionally, in the village of Drasliceni in the Criuleni district, a rescue crew was dispatched to tow a car containing two people that had become trapped on a muddy road.

According to electricity suppliers, at 06:00, two localities in the Anenii Noi district—Delacău and Puhăceni—were disconnected from the electricity grid.

The General Inspectorate for Emergencies continues to monitor the situation nationwide and urges citizens to avoid areas affected by flooding or impassable roads.

The Chisinau City Hall also informed that relevant municipal services are in place to address reports of damage caused by heavy rains.

In light of the yellow code for rain and wind issued by the State Hydrometeorological Service, which remains in effect, the municipal authorities recommend that citizens use public transport instead of personal vehicles.

Furthermore, drivers are advised not to park on the sides of roads, on sidewalks, or under old trees to avoid traffic congestion and allow for the rapid intervention of specialized equipment.
