Five people lost their citizenship of the Republic of Moldova. It was revoked by presidential decree

On Thursday, July 17, the President of the Republic of Moldova issued a decree revoking the citizenship of five individuals who voluntarily enlisted in a Russian military unit illegally stationed in the Transnistrian region.

The decision was made based on the Constitution and Article 23, paragraph (1), letter b) of the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, which states that "citizenship of the Republic of Moldova may be revoked by a decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova for a person who has voluntarily enlisted in foreign armed forces."

According to the document signed by the head of state, Moldovan citizenship is revoked for the following individuals:

Eduard Mocusei, born in 1974

Nicolai Ovsov, born in 1986

Alexandr Prihodcenco, born in 1976

Andrei Sablicov, born in 1982

Denis Ștefanov, born in 1981

The document notes that all of them were born in the Republic of Moldova.

Presidential spokesperson Igor Zaharov stated that the procedure was initiated by the Public Services Agency (ASP) following a notification from the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS).

"Checks carried out by SIS confirmed that the five individuals voluntarily enlisted in the armed forces of a foreign state — specifically, in a Russian military unit illegally stationed in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova," Zaharov explained.

The decree comes into force on the date of signing and can be challenged in court within six months, in accordance with Article 41 of the Citizenship Law.
