More than 30 communities in the Republic of Moldova will receive technical and financial support to create Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans. A press release from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) states that this support aims to enhance energy and climate planning while also enabling the implementation of practical green solutions.

In the selected communities, initiatives led by women that focus on environmentally friendly economic practices will be promoted to combat poverty and energy vulnerabilities exacerbated by climate change. Up to $40,000 will be allocated for community projects.

Additionally, women agro-producers in these areas will have access to goods and services valued at up to $20,000, while women running household businesses can receive support of up to $6,000.

This support is part of the "Resilient Communities through Women's Empowerment" project, which is implemented by UNDP and financially supported by Sweden and Norway.

In February 2025, an additional 22 communities were selected as partners in the project, and 12 localities benefited from assistance during the first stage, following the development and adoption of local plans to adapt to climate change and reduce disaster risks. As a result, the total number of communities involved in this initiative has reached 65, encompassing a population of over 220,000 residents on both sides of the Nistru.
