DA Platform won't run separately in parliamentary elections; it will back PAS on a joint list

The Dignity and Truth Platform (DA) will not be on the ballot for the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28. Instead, the DA will support the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) through a political partnership. This decision was made by the DA Platform Council after consultations with the party's local mayors and councilors.

The announcement was made by Dinu Plîngău, the party's president.

“The DA Platform Council decided, after thorough consultations, to accept a political partnership with PAS, our colleagues within the European People's Party. This decision was not an easy one but was necessary to prevent the fragmentation of the pro-European vote and to ensure a diversity of opinions in the future Parliament,” Plîngău wrote on Facebook.

He emphasized that this gesture of unity comes at a crucial moment for the future of the Republic of Moldova.

“It depends on our collective wisdom to determine whether our country continues on its path towards the EU or falls victim to fugitive oligarchs and war engineers from the Kremlin,” declared the leader of the DA Platform.

Plîngău advocated for the unification of efforts and competencies among all pro-European parties, stating, “There are good people in all parties, and everyone should have the chance to contribute where they can make the most impact,” while mentioning several individuals from other formations.

In light of these decisions, Liviu Vovc was designated as the interim president of the DA Platform, with a party congress scheduled to occur after the September 28 elections.

Igor Grosu, the president of the Action and Solidarity Party and Parliament Speaker, confirmed that, to strengthen the pro-European and pro-democratic segment in the parliamentary elections, PAS held talks with the "Împreuna" bloc and offered eligible positions on the party's electoral list to their representatives.

“We received a positive response from the DA Platform, and we thank them for accepting our proposal. We acknowledge the refusal from the Change Party and LOC,” Grosu mentioned.

It is worth noting that the Parliament Speaker previously stated that PAS would only form a coalition in the future Legislature with pro-European parties, explicitly excluding coalitions with the National Alternative Movement Party (MAN), led by Ion Ceban, and with Renato Usatîi's Our Party.

On June 16, Igor Grosu presented the first four candidates who will run on the party's list in the early parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28, 2024. These candidates are conductor Nicolae Botgros, entrepreneur Maria Acbaș from Gagauz Autonomy, writer and publicist Constantin Cheianu, and former Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Marcel Spatari.

Later, on June 23, PAS announced three additional candidates: Viorel Bostan, rector of the Technical University of Moldova; Iurie Cojocari, president of the Moldovan community in the United Kingdom; and Ludmila Adamciuc, founder of the “My Friend” association.

On July 3, Nicu Popescu, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, announced his decision to join the PAS team for the upcoming parliamentary elections. He shared this announcement on social media, stating it was a “natural step” to take alongside PAS “to consolidate the European path of the Republic of Moldova.”

On July 7, three more individuals from the fields of sports and medicine also announced their candidacies on the list of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the autumn parliamentary elections.

The parliamentary elections are scheduled for September 28, 2025.
